What we liked about the Frigidaire 30” Inch Induction Cooktop

Frigidaire comes in a thoughtful, unique and beautiful design. The glass surface is attractive, smooth and sturdy.

The burners are of different sizes giving the user the flexibility to cook in different sized pans/pots. All the burners can work at the same time as placing cookware on burners does not interfere with the adjacent burners.

Digital touch controls make the cooking process quite smooth and easy to operate. It is simple and placed right in front of the cooktop. Quite a comfortable and ergonomic shape and position!

The cookware can exceed or decrease from the normal diameter by half an inch and not more nor less.

Frigidaire inductions cause a rapid change in temperatures going from very high to very low. This can be helpful in cooking different cuisines requiring different temperatures.

It heats up rapidly compared to other inductions. It evenly heats up at the surface of the cookware in contact with the induction. Heat remains confined to the cooktop with the rest of the cooktop being cool to touch. Hence there is no danger of burns.

It has automatic pan detection and overheating detectors making cooking a safe process. If there is no pan detected, it switches off in 3 minutes saving energy. By shutting down when overheated, it prevents accidents.

The cooktop comes with a child-lock setting to prevent switching on automatically. It also boasts of a keep warm or holds feature which comes handy quite a lot. Especially with children around. The cooking remains paused with the food remaining warm.

An inbuilt timer helps to remind you about the duration of the cooking. The timer can be set from 1 minute up to 99 minutes.

What could have been better

The control panel buttons are very small making it difficult to read during cooking especially if there is water or steam on it. The automatic digital controls get switched on with the slightest splatter.

The front burners are quite near the control panels and can interfere with the digitally sensitive buttons on the control panel.

Like all cooktops, this one also hums briefly while cooking.

This is especially true when multiple zones are being used and at high power levels. Sounds mostly occur due to the cookware. The induction field will cause the steel layer to vibrate against the other materials in which it is encapsulated.

Lightweight cookware is also another common cause of vibration. We recommend using heavyweight cookware.

If the cookware is not kept in the center of the cooking zone burner, heating will not take place.

Being glass-ceramic, the surface of the cooktop is vulnerable to breakage/cracks. Breakage can occur if a heavy object is placed on it with force or falls on the cooktop accidentally.

If no buttons are pressed within 10 seconds of switching on, the power on feature gets cleared. This is a very short duration for the user to choose settings. Everything would need to be done hurriedly and the pan should be either on the cooktop or ready to place with raw food ingredients within 10 seconds.

As the control panel buttons are quite near each other, they can be pressed together by mistake. Wrong buttons will cause the appliance to not operate.

As the control panel is a bit away but on the same surface as the cooking zone, there are chances of spillage or accidental heating up of the control panel if it comes in contact with it.

While working on the cooktop, due to its huge size and operational buttons at quite a distance from the edges of the cooktop, it becomes difficult to maintain a distance of 1 foot to avoid EMF exposure according to ICNIRP guidelines.

As the induction consists of a complex embedded system, repair requires professional help which can be costly.

Some value-added smart features are missing in the cookware like wifi enabled or remote control operated etc. with cut-throat competition, frigidaire lacks behind in such features.

Frigidaire 30'' Inch Induction Cooktop Review

After installing the induction according to the instructions in the user manual, make sure the cooktop vent holes are not blocked. Maintain an appropriate distance from the wall to ensure this.

Keep away all objects which are sensitive to a magnetic field from near the cooktop. Use ferromagnetic and flat bottomed cookware. Do not use curved or warped bottom cookware. Use a magnet to check for ferromagnetic properties. If it sticks to the base of the pan, it is ferromagnetic and can be used on the cooktop.

Use a lid to avoid splatters and conserve energy and use a wooden spoon instead of steel spoons which are ferromagnetic and can heat up.

To avoid stray radiation and last-minute fumbles, place cookware on the cooktop before switching on the induction.

Always place the cookware in the center of the cooking zone. Match the center of the cooking zone with the center of the cookware.

The cooking zone on the cooktop requires a minimum sized pan to be used over each heating element. A half an inch increase or decrease is acceptable but not more than that.

Next turn the on/off pad for the desired cooking zone for 2 seconds. Press the power button or timer within 10 seconds of switching on.

Choose from 15 different power levels to cook your food. Note that the highest setting of power, also called power boost, provides approximate 139% power for 10 minutes.

If the highest power is used on two burners in the same zone, the power-sharing feature will activate and decrease the power of anyone burner. The last burner set will cook at a maximum power level. The other burner will experience a slight decrease from its power setting

Use the timer button by pressing on/off button for two seconds and then increase or decrease the timer setting from 1 minute to 99 minutes..

The control lock pad feature allows the cooktop to be locked only when the cooktop is switched to off. Touch and hold the child lock keypad for 3 seconds. Once locked, no other displays will glow and no cooking zone will activate. To turn the controls lock off, touch and hold the lock keypad for 3 seconds.
